Suprematism

Suprematism, a small art movement that lasted only a year (1915-1916) and was established in Russia by a man named Kasimir Malevich. It all started here, shapes having their own art form, and till this day is being used by almost all designers. I enjoy all the work done by Malevich, I wouldn't go and say that the work is simple, it to me seems very technical with the use of geometric shapes being done traditionally. Not like today where we have the choice of clicking one button to give us shapes, I like the feeling the traditional shapes give off, with the almost straight lines and the texture feeling to them it works really nicely. Deffinatly an inspiration to me and the illustrations I try to create.

Oh Yeah Studio

Oh Yeah Studio, I really found a general liking to all their pieces of artwork, the shapes the illustrations, the blending of shapes and illustrations it works really well and it inspires me to try out some of it on photographs.

I like the blending of illustrations this studio does, it's really interesting and it does create some really interesting artwork, I also like the limited colours they use, black and red, with different shades of each, it really works well.

Random Shapes! Love the colours and the texture feel to the shapes, it's kind of hard to link this to DNA... Everyone has a different shape? I don't know...

I really like the colours in this piece, grey, almost black colours also the inclusion of the two red shapes works really well. The grainy feel to shapes is also a nice addition, I might have to give it a try.

I really love this piece, it's got alot more going on, many people would consider it 'a mess' but I call it brilliance, the illustrations alone are really interesting, the colours and random shapes just give it more energy and feeling, I also like the composition of the piece, where almost all of the piece has something to look at.

Non - Format

Non - Format, I did find some interesting work while researching them, they use alot of interesting geometric shapes with nice contrasting colours, they focus alot on typography, and it works really well, it makes me want to create some typography now. I'm still on a quest to create interesting illustrations using simple shapes alone, and I think looking at Non-Format helped with showing me some interesting ways to use shapes and also showed me some nice variety of shapes alone.

I'm not sure why this is in my research, at the time it seemed to stand out to me, I do like the typography and the simplicity of it.

A piece done for IBM, I like the interesting shapes that are going on, the colours work really well,
could say it's random and non relevant to my initial main FMP idea, but I was considering doing a series of art posters based on images like this.

The simplicity is something I enjoy, I also find the shapes interesting and the concept behind the piece is nice. The typography is cleverly placed and blends in well with the concept.

I really like the use of typography in this piece, I also like the limited use of colours, they contrast really well. Though it has little to do with the style I'm trying to go for, it still has a simple feeling going for it which I do enjoy because I do believe in 'Less is More'.
